Share Your Peel Memorial Story: Be Part of the Legacy
We know the walls of Peel Memorial hold countless stories of compassion, resilience, and connection. Now, we want to hear yours.
As we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Peel Memorial, one name stands out as a tireless advocate for Brampton's health care future—Mayor Patrick Brown. His leadership has been instrumental in moving the vision for Brampton's second hospital forward—and his commitment shows no signs of slowing down.
For Mayor Brown, Peel Memorial isn't just part of the city's health care system—it's personal.
Both of his children were born at Brampton Civic Hospital, and he and his wife make their home in the city he proudly serves. "We experienced firsthand the incredible care Osler provides," he says. "It was compassionate, professional, and deeply reassuring—something every family deserves."
That lived experience is part of what fuels the Mayor's unwavering advocacy for Brampton's second hospital at Peel Memorial. As the city continues to grow, he has emerged as one of the most vocal and active champions for ensuring health care keeps pace.
"Brampton is one of the fastest-growing cities in Canada," he shares. "We need a second hospital to make sure families can access the care they need, right here in their own community. This is an investment in our future."
In March 2025, years of advocacy came to life as shovels hit the ground for the new Peel Memorial—a hospital that will bring more inpatient beds, 24/7 emergency care, and expanded programs to the people of Brampton. For Mayor Brown, that moment marked a major milestone. "The groundbreaking was powerful," he says. "It was a clear sign that our efforts are working, and that Brampton's future includes the care we've long needed."
He's not only raising his voice—he's raising funds. Mayor Brown's annual Hockey Night in Brampton has become a signature community event, bringing NHL greats, celebrities, and local supporters together for a fun night in support of William Osler Health System (Osler). In 2024 alone, it raised an incredible $14 million—with all proceeds supporting the new Peel Memorial Hospital.
This year's event will take place on August 20, and Mayor Brown hopes even more residents will join the cause.
"Hockey Night in Brampton is a chance for the entire community to come together in support of something that affects us all," he says. "Health care touches every family. This is how we can all play a part in building Peel."
As we mark 100 years of care at Peel Memorial, Mayor Brown is looking ahead—with gratitude for the progress made and determination to see it through.
As a father and resident of this city, Peel Memorial represents peace of mind. It means knowing that if my kids, my neighbours, or anyone in this community needs care, it will be there—close to home and ready to help. That's the kind of legacy we're building."
