People of Peel Memorial: Ravi Purewal
For Ravinder (Ravi) Purewal, joining William Osler Health System’s (Osler) nursing team was more than a career move—it was a full-circle moment. As a teenager, she volunteered in the paediatrics department at Peel Memorial, driven by a passion for working with children. At just 15 years old, she told the volunteer recruiter, “I really love working with kids. That’s where my heart is”.
In 1910, The Women's Institute of Brampton came together with an ambitious vision—to build the community's first hospital. That same community brought this vision to life. Passionate citizens and leaders mobilized around the idea, working together to build the small hospital that would eventually grow to impact millions of lives. One hundred years ago, Peel Memorial Hospital opened its doors for the first time, changing the landscape of health care in Brampton and surrounding communities forever.
When Peel Memorial Hospital opened for the very first time in 1925, it served a population of 3,000 people. Now, 100 years later, that community has grown to 1.3 million and counting. With more demand than ever on our health care system, it is time for us to step into an exciting new chapter of Peel Memorial’s history.
