Share Your Peel Memorial Story: Be Part of the Legacy
We know the walls of Peel Memorial hold countless stories of compassion, resilience, and connection. Now, we want to hear yours.
For more than 55 years, Brannon Steel has been part of Brampton’s story—shaping industries across North America while always keeping its roots firmly in the community.
Founded in 1968 in Etobicoke, the company eventually moved to Brampton, where it has grown to three facilities, more than 200 employees, and over 200,000 square feet of manufacturing space. Today, Brannon Steel supplies heavy steel for everything from construction and mining to energy and transportation—powering the equipment and infrastructure that keep the world moving.
But ask the Brannon family what they’re most proud of, and it’s not just the steel. It’s the tradition of giving back that runs through every generation. Founder Al Brannon believed community service was simply part of doing business. “Ever since I was a kid, I remember my dad fundraising for different charity events,” says Dave Brannon, now President & CEO of Brannon Steel. “He always made it clear that if the community supports you, you support the community.”
It’s all the employees who’ve helped us grow. Supporting the hospital is one way we give back to them, their families, and the city we share.
That philosophy has been carried forward in new ways by the next generation. Tomm Brannon, inspired by his father’s example, established the Brannon Foundation and encouraged Brannon Steel to deepen its role as a corporate citizen. Through his leadership, the company’s commitment to philanthropy expanded, ensuring that giving back wasn’t just a family tradition but a defining part of the company’s identity.
That belief has also shaped the family’s story with William Osler Health System (Osler). Dave was born at Peel Memorial Hospital—“apparently I set a record as a 12-pound baby,” he jokes. His mother, Karen, has been a fixture at Brampton Civic Hospital for more than 30 years, volunteering in diagnostic imaging and earning recognition for her extraordinary service. “Peel has always been part of our family story,” Dave says. “It means the world to be able to reinvest in Brampton.”
For Dave, supporting local health care is also about honouring the people behind Brannon Steel. “It’s not just the family,” he explains. “It’s all the employees who’ve helped us grow. Supporting the hospital is one way we give back to them, their families, and the city we share.”
As Brampton grows and Peel Memorial moves into its next chapter of expansion, the Brannon family is proud to continue that legacy of philanthropy. Their story is one of resilience, generosity, and leadership—a reminder that strong communities are built not just on steel and concrete, but on compassion, service, and a shared commitment to the future.
